Welcome to Catwalk / Sidewalk, where Simon Style Setter Kristen will walk you through how to translate the hottest runway trends to real life outfits. In this edition, we're talking serious stripes. Tommy Hilfiger's Spring 2013 collection sent head-to-toe vertical stripes down the runway. The look is long and lean on the model, but some of us feel less than svelte in stripes. Here are the keys to copying this catwalk style without looking like a clown!

1) Vertical stripes create a long line - a viewer's eye is drawn right up to your lovely face!

2) While all over red stripes may look garish, darker colors like navy keep the look sophisticated.

3) In addition to direction and color, think about the width of your stripes. Varying sizes keep your outfit from looking too much like a jumpsuit.

4) Simple, cosmopolitan accessories help an all stripe outfit look chic and expensive.

What do you think? Will you be trying the all-stripe look? How are you planning to style it?
